Another year has ended and another year has begun. Reflecting over 2012 has been extremely difficult. The challenges presented to Frank and me this past year have been great, but we were able to find comfort and healing through our foundation. Giving in the mist of pain and sorrow is the greatest medicine.
Although our foundation is newly organized, it is gaining great momentum since August 2012. During the month of August, we had our first official event, and the funds collected allowed us to give to families that have a baby in the NICU or suffered the loss of their child. In September 2012, the Philadelphia Inquirer published a wonderful article regarding our cause and story. After the published story, 6ABC contacted us for an interview with Nora Muchanic for the informational TV series Perspective NJ. These two opportunities have given us the favor and grace to meet many individuals that have the same or similar story. It had also provided for us open doors to help many. We are excited about our established partnership with Local 322 Plumber and Pipefitters and Richard Stockton College of NJ. Thanks to Mr. Kehoe and Dr. Librizzi who continue to be a great support for Frank and I. We are hopeful to finalize other contracts in the very near future mainly with Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center and Virtua Health System. November 1, 2012 was our second official fundraiser at Friendly’s in Deptford, NJ. We had a great turn out in spite of hurricane Sandy.
Lastly, on December 19, 2012, The Carissa Foundation had an exciting day! We were happy to provide cookie trays, an apple cake, and a pumpkin rolls to Virtua Voorhees NICU, L&D, and High Risk Maternity. A cookie tray was also provided for NICU families, plus two cookie trays and an apple cake went to Our Lady of Lourdes MC's NICU staff and families. We also gave out several gift cards, brochures, bracelets, logo pins, and pens. It is because of generous donations that we are able to brighten someone's day.
Please continue to pray for us and our foundation that we may positively influence many and show them love and support. Losing a child is the hardest loss to endure; those that have lost a child need extra support and love. They want to feel that you care for them, do not turn your back or ignore that it happened to them. Speak with them and encourage their broken hearts.
