It has been awhile since my last blog, and I have missed blogging immensely! But since I am finished and graduated school, I now have more time to dedicate to my passion. Frank and I have had an exciting start to the year and look forward to things to come. We are excited to announce our partnership with Virtua Health System and look forward to a long-term relationship with them.
May is an extremely difficult month for us, as we remember Christian. He is greatly loved, missed, and will always be in our hearts. Thank you to those that have reached out to us during this difficult season. You support is greatly appreciated.
On May 1st we had a Teddy Bear Drive at Stockton College, to collect bears for mothers that have lost an infant at the Virtua Health System. It was a successful event and I would like to thank Sabrei, Alexis, and Event Services for helping the Carissa Foundation make an impact. I also met a wonderful girl named April. She is so passionate about encouraging women and families going through loss, and I wanted to share her story:
Dear Reader,
I am sorry you have to go through this. I may not understand what you are going through, but I love someone who has dealt with this before, my mother. My mother had two miscarriages before she adopted my sister from South Korea. Mom was diagnosed with Lupus and was told that she would never have children. Now, mom has two daughters, Stacey and April. I am April. I was supposed to be born in April, hence my name (clever parents!). My mother had me premature in February. The umbilical cord was wrapped around my neck...soon to be a 3rd miscarriage. But Mom and Dad prayed to God and Jesus, asked doctors, family, and priests for help; now, I am alive. I want to tell you my story for hope, for love, for support from someone that may not know what you're going through, but wants to show their care.
I learned to rely on God and Jesus Christ, my family, my friends, myself...we must be strong and support those parents in their time of loss, but remember that in loss, God gives us the opportunity to grow. We must remember that Jesus will help us all; we must rely on Him with everything.
God Bless,
April
