I had another focus for this blog, but it is taking a different turn (hopefully for the good). I wanted to discuss showing kindness and gentleness to others to end the “love month”. But as we are talking about mental health and wellbeing, I feel the need to bring up the necessity of us being gentle and kind to ourselves.
Gentle and kind to ourselves? Yes! The focus is always to be gentle and kind to others, but what about us? We need the same care, to maintain our overall health and wellbeing. Why are we so critical and hard on ourselves all the time? Why do we have this perfectionist mindset all the time? Why must we be perfect and strong, and everything that the world wants us to be all the time? This is distressing that we must be a pseudo-type of who we are. We all have flaws and short comings. We all have imperfections! We are all human! But these realities are what makes us who we are and unique. It develops our character.
What if we treated ourselves with more gentleness and kindness, quick to forgive ourselves for our short comings, would we be more mentally secure?
Understanding we are finite and imperfect beings in our thoughts and thinking will shift our mindset to embracing our humanity. Allowing us to reach for our Heavenly Father, our Creator, and our Lord. The one who created us in his own image. Ultimately, healing and mending our brokenness, and then resurrecting us in the newness of life and in more abundance.
